Souren A. Takhtajan

Souren A. Takhtajan was in 1956. In 1979, he graduated from the Department of History of Ancient Greece and Rome at Leningrad State University.

After graduating from the university, for several years he taught Latin at the Pharmaceutical Institute (Leningrad). From 1989-1992, he worked as a research fellow at the Institute for the History of Science and Technology at the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg. Since 1992, he has worked in the Department of Classics at St. Petersburg State University (currently as a docent). He teaches courses in the ancient Greek and Latin language, and lectures on “Sophist Antiphon” and “The History of Classical Social Thoughts,” (in the Department of the History of Ancient Greece and Rome). He teaches at St. Petersburg Institute of Judaism. In 2001, he obtained his Ph. D. degree in Classics (“Scythians in Euphorus: the Sources of Idealization”). In 2003 and 2004, he was a visiting fellow at Trinity College (Cambridge). In April-June 2007, he was a fellow Kone Foundation in the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal “Hyperboreus.” His current research interest lies in Greek Sophistics and he is working on a book on Antiphon.
