“Colloquium Balticum VII: Classical Heritage and Modernity” took place in Tartu (Estonia). The conference of the Baltic Network of Classical Scholars, organized by the Department of Classical Philology of the University of Tartu and Morgenstern Society, is celebrating the 375th anniversary of the University of Tartu. Speakers came from Lithuania, Latvia, Sweeden, Germany, Finland, Russia, and Estonia.

Conference commemorating the 110th anniversary of Prof. Dr. Aristid I. Dovatur (1897–1982) and 75th anniversary of rebirth of the Department of Classics at St. Petersburg State University (Faculty of Philology and Fine Arts of St. Petersburg State University). Speakers: Prof. Dr. Jury Otkupschikov, Prof. Dr. Eduard Frolov, Prof. Dr. Jelena Rabinivich, Prof. Dr. Valery Durov, Dr. Alexander Vasiljev. With official programme completed, a number of former pupils and colleagues of A. Dovatur shared their vivid reminiscences of the teacher, including Prof. Dr. Alexander Gavrilov, Assoc. Prof. Natalya Botvinnik, Prof. Dr. Tatiana Rozhdestvenskaja, etc.

Grand meeting “Bibliotheca classica Petropolitana: 14 Year Results and Future Prospects”. The meeting was attended by members of the association Bibliotheca classica Petropolitana (Antichnyj Kabinet) and the distinguished guests from Europe, the members of the comitee of “Amici Bibliotheca Classicae”, the world-embracing society for the support of the Bibliotheca classica (Dr. André Hurst, Université de Genève; Prof. Dr. Bernd Manuwald, Universität Köln; Prof. Dr. Bernd Seidensticker, Freie Universität Berlin), and Dr. hab. Reinhart Meyer-Kalkus, the academic secretary of Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, the institution, which helped considerably played the decisive role in founding of the BiCl and its further activities. The members of various St. Petersburg institutions participated in the meeting and took part in discussions which followed it (St. Petersburg Institute of History, Russian Academy of Sciences; Department of Biblical Studies, St. Petersburg State University; State Hermitage; Gymnasium classicum; Library of St. Petersburg State University).

In compliance with the Association law, the board of administration of the Bibliotheca classica elected a new director, Dr Alexander Verlinsky. Prof. Dr. Alexander Gavrilov will in future retain the prominent position in the Bibliotheca Classica as its founding director and the permanent member of the administration. He addressed a speech welcome to the audience and gave a talk on the history of the Bibliotheca classica. Prof. Dr. Bernd Seidensticker gave a report on “Amici Bibliothecae Classicae”. Dr. hab. Reinhart Meyer-Kalkus concentrated public’s attention on cooperation of Wissenschatskolleg zu Berlin and Bibliotheca classica. Dr. Alexander Verlinsky read a paper on the activities of the Bibliotheca classica and its future projects, which ended in laudatio Alexander Gavrilov. More ...
